Screw it I’m voting for Dave Raval

So it turns out I’m voting Lib Dem. Again. I always seem to swing to Lib Dem moments before voting. Dunno why. Here are my reasons this time:

I would be voting Labour. I still trust the Labour back bench more than any other party, and I’m not looking forward to seeing some of them go instead of a few of their front bench.

But I’m not voting for a party. I’m voting for who I want to be my local representative. And the Labour candidate is crap. OK, I don’t have much evidence for this- other than she’s the fucking minister in charge of ID cards. I dunno, she seems leftie enough - or at least used to be before she got pulled into the machinery of New Labour and she’s too spineless to stand up to it. All things I’m guessing.

Here are a few key assets a candidate should have

  • Lives locally
  • Seems interested in local issues
  • Knows how to use email
  • Isn’t the minister in charge of ID cards

Step up Dave Raval and Denny de la Haye. Denny actually maps to nearly everything I like. Actually in addition to that, he’s the only candidate I’ve had any contact with at all. And that was on IRC. I mean, this sounds good right? My only tiny problem is I don’t believe in the kind of direct democracy he believes in. I want to vote a smart, intelligent representative in who leads, not follows. Which is frustrating, as he’s the guy I’d want to represent me, we match up in so many ways. Plus I can’t help but notice that the Lib Dem guy has more chance of winning. sigh

He’s hardly inspirational, but he ticks the boxes. Dave Raval - you get my vote.

This is the first time I’ve ever voted in a general election - the most exciting for years - and I’m quite into politics, but this isn’t particularly fun. When I grow up I’m going to be a grumpy old man.

PS I should probably make a note of how the internet affected my vote, what with that being my area and all. Quite simple: They Work For You was the only election tool that wasn’t shit and missing the point. Also starring BBC iPlayer and Google search.
